Hello there... check out what's new at NHES...

The Energy Efficient Home

The good news is that making your home energy efficient or qualifying a new home as Energy Star doesn't involve space age materials and most improvements are extremely cost effective. You will not have to modify the plans to your home at all. In fact, most folks can't tell the difference between an Energy Star Home and a conventional home (until you examine the utility bills of course). You won't notice the energy efficient improvements made to your existing home either as long as they are completed with quality.

Components of an Energy Efficient Home include:

1. Air Sealing
2. Duct Sealing
3. Effective Insulation
4. Energy Efficient Windows
5. Efficient Heating and Cooling Equipment
6. Efficient Water Heaters
7. Lighting and Appliances

1. Air Sealing

Sealing holes and cracks in the home's "envelope" helps reduce drafts, moisture, dust, pollen, and noise. A tightly sealed home improves comfort and indoor air quality while reducing utility bills. The air leaks in the average home add up to equal the size of an open window. Also, reducing a home's air leaks reduces the load on the heating and cooling equipment. In some homes, reducing air leaks can mean downsizing to smaller equipment - a tremendous savings.
